Throughout the month of May, Green-Schools awarded a whopping 667 schools with their Green Flags!!
12 ceremonies in 7 locations around the country… that’s impressive!

Global Citizenship Schools of the Year:  

Global Citizenship Litter & Waste 

Regional winners were recognised across the country.  

  • In Dublin County, Scoil Mhuire (South Dublin County Council) took the Primary School award and St. Paul’s CBS (Dublin City Council) the Secondary. 
  • In the Eastern/Midlands region, Kilmainhamwood National School (Meath) and St. Joseph’s CBS Secondary School (Louth) were honoured.  
  • Scoil Iosa (Mayo) led the Northern/Western region.  
  • In the Southern region Midwest School for the Deaf (Limerick) and Villiers School (Limerick) took the Primary and Secondary awards.  

 

The overall winners for Global Citizenship Litter & Waste were  

  • Scoil Iosa (Mayo) at Primary level , recognised for its student-led, democratic and inclusive committee, whole-school embedding of Global Citizenship, and data-driven, measurable improvements. 
  • St. Joseph’s CBS Secondary School (Louth) won the National award at Secondary level, celebrated for its class-wide student committee, TY mentoring, strong waste tracking, awareness campaigns and global citizenship learning, all under the motto “Your Planet, You Plan It!” 

 

Global Citizenship Energy 

  • Regional Energy winners included Our Lady’s Girls National School and Cabinteely Community School (both Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown) in Dublin.  
  • Our Lady Queen of Peace N.S. (Limerick) and Presentation Secondary (Waterford) in the South. 
  • Killaghtee N.S. and Mulroy College (both Donegal) in the Northern/Western region.  
  • And Mullaghbuoy NS (Louth) and Ard Scoil Chiaráin Naofa Clara (Offaly) in the Eastern/Midlands.  

 

The overall winners for Global Citizenship Energy were  

  • Our Lady’s Girls National School (Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown) at Primary level, noted for its student-led Green Squad, weekly action themes, solar panel installation and Fairtrade initiatives.  
  • And Cabinteely Community School (Dún Laoghaire/Rathdown) won the National award at Secondary level, recognised for connecting daily energy choices to wider environmental responsibility through whole-school campaigns. 
  • Mary K’s Childcare, Preschool and School Age (Clare) won the National Junior Category, embedding energy-saving habits into everyday routines.
