Welcome to the Global Goals Advent Calendar! With the holiday season fast approaching Green-Schools wanted to take the opportunity to introduce the Global Goals through both fun and engaging activities themed around advent season. These activities were specifically curated to take minimal time and preparation. Global Goal 1: No Poverty | Monday, November 28th

To kick off the first day of the Global Goals advent calendar, learn about poverty, an often difficult topic to introduce to students, by watching this engaging video with a positive twist.

Explore Global Goal 2: Zero Hunger by investigating the issues around food waste, and how you and your school can prevent it! 

Global Goal 3: Good Health And Well-Being | Wednesday, November 30th

Global Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being isn’t just about exercise, it’s also about ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. Investigate the importance of air quality and dive into an experiment where you will test the air quality in and around your school!

Global Goal 4: Quality Education | Thursday, December 1st

Global Goal 4: Learn about Malala Yousafzai and her fight for Global Goal 4: Quality Education! Then have an engaging discussion about learning as a right and what we can do to raise awareness about the importance of education for all.  

 

Global Goal 5: Gender Equality | Friday, December 2nd

Come learn about the relationship of Global Goal 5: Gender Equality and how it relates to the gender pay gap and gender stereotyping with Joanne!  

Global Goal 6: Clean Water And Sanitation | Monday, December 5th

Globally more than 884 million people do not have safe water to drink, which is why Global Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation is so important! Learn about water filtration with this hands-on experiment! 

 

Global Goal 7: Affordable And Clean Energy | Tuesday, December 6th

Explore the story of energy through this enlightening activity, do not forget your test your knowledge with the quiz!

Global Goal 8: Decent Work And Economic Growth| Wednesday, December 7th

Learn all about Goal 8: Decent work and Economic Growth by diving into the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt!  

Global Goal 9: Industry, Innovation And Infrastructure| Thursday, December 8th

Explore Global Goal 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by first listening to William Kamkwamba discuss how building a windmill changed his entire community. Then join Linda to create your very own windmill! 

Global Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities| Friday, December 9th

See the importance of Global Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities by watching taking a trip with The Normals. Then have a thought-provoking discussion with students about how accessible your community is and ways to make it more accessible.  

Global Goal 11: Sustainable Cities And Communities| Monday, December 12th

On the 11th day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a sustainable city! Build your very own sustainable city and help Santa and his reindeer decide which city has better air quality for him and his reindeer to fly in.

Discover what it means to have a peaceful society with Global Goal 16: Peace, Justice, & Strong Institutions. Then get crafty while making your very own symbol of peace ornament!    

 

Global Goal 17: Partnerships For The Goals | Tuesday, December 20th

Congratulations, you’ve made it to the final Global Goal! Dive into the last resources and learn about the importance of teamwork as well as celebrating all that we have in common.   

Complete your final loop on the chain and take home your 17 Global Goals chain and hang it on your Christmas tree to remind yourself of the pledges you’ve made!
