Our Challenge for you this Winter is to get your school involved in bird watching!
A great way to do this is to take part in the Birdwatch Ireland Garden Bird Survey. This is a fantastic opportunity to get your students involved in a simple citizen science project while learning about the birds around your school. To kick off this challenge, we hosted a webinar with Brian Burke from Birdwatch Ireland. Brian gave us lots of tips on how to attract birds to your school as well as how to identify them and fill out the survey.

- Pick one area of your school that you will monitor birds in. It could be a corner with some trees and bird feeders hanging or it could be a stretch of the hedgerow that can be seen from your class window etc. Avoid including an entire football pitch etc.
- The survey officially runs from Monday, November 27th to Sunday, February 25th but you can miss out some weeks for school holidays etc.
- Use spotter sheets/bird books or posters to help identify different birds.
- You can fill out the form digitally or you can print off this pdf and fill out by hand.
