Walk to School Week 2023

National Walk to School Week takes place this year from October 2nd-6th, 2023. This week is all about celebrating walking as a positive mode for school journeys. We are asking schools to celebrate with us and try to make this the most inclusive walk to school week yet!  Walk on Wednesdays are days where everyone tries to walk or park and stride to school if they can. Please join us on National Walk to School Day (National WOW Day!) on Wednesday 4th October, if this day doesn’t suit, you can participate any day of Walk to School week.

Investigate & Create

We invite primary schools to share their walking experience through our ‘Investigate & Create’ Challenge. This challenge invites students to investigate what they hear, see, feel on the way to school on Wednesday 21st September (or any day during Walk to School Week).

Walking Resources

Getting to school on foot is a different experience at every school. We have compiled a list of resources to support help actively engage everyone.

Record your success!

Don’t forget to keep a record of the number of students walking or park and striding on whatever day you have chosen and submit a record of the total number of students who participated that day. Choose which survey sheet works for you (both survey sheets in Irish and English):  When you’ve gathered your results please submit them using our online submission form or email your results to travel@greenschoolsireland.org

Need more inspiration?

Watch our How to Start a Walking Bus Webinar! Our Travel Officers Lisa and Catherine will walk you through (see what we did there?) the do’s and don’ts of a walking bus for your school community.
