June is the month of Scooting! This year Scoot to School Week can take place any week of your school’s choosing, or even for the whole month of June. Celebrate and scoot in style with this fun and sustainable way to travel!
We are asking schools to use this month to shine a light on Scooting in style. You may choose to organise a Scoot TO School Day (SOW), or if scooting on the journey to and from school is tricky, why not hold a Scoot AT School Day (SAS)!
In place of having a SOW day competition this year, we are encouraging schools to celebrate scooting when best suits them during the month of June. Why not get in touch with your Travel Officer to organise some scooting workshops or to help with organising a SOW day! The resources below can guide you in adding some scooting flair in the lead up to the summer holidays:
Our Scooter Obstacle Course Challenge pack contains everything you need to organise some on-yard scooting fun! Your Green-Schools Committee will have a ball organising this!
We also have a lovely classroom activity; the story of Scotty the Scooting Snail. This can be displayed on a whiteboard and highlights the benefits of scooting and touches upon themes of bravery, friendship and independence.
If you are organising a SOW day or scooting event, please see the SOW day survey sheets and Scooting event posters below.
To help you promote your event we have downloadable posters available in English and Irish.
Don’t forget to share your photos and news with us on social media by tagging @GreenSchoolsIre, @greenschools_travel and @TFIupdates using #Scoot2SchoolWeek and #Microscooters.
Please contact the Green-Schools Travel Team on travel@greenschoolsireland.org or your local Green-Schools Travel Officer with any enquiries.
