Cycle Right Training Grants

Cycle Right Training

Cycle Right is an external organisation that trains individuals to become trainers in delivering training to students on the proper ways of riding a bike on the road.

Funded by the Department of Transport and supported by the NTA, eligible* schools within the Green-Schools programme can avail of a grant which covers up to €10 per pupil participating in the programme; with a limit of €600. The €600 limit is in a calendar year.

Therefore, if a school does training twice within the same calendar year, they can apply twice but only up to €600.

Other important points to note:
  • It is very important to note the funding runs on a calendar year and not on the school year calendar.
  • All funding is on a first come, first served basis. Once the funding runs out, no more applications can be processed in that particular calendar year.
  • Both secondary and primary schools are eligible for the same amount of coverage.
  • DEIS schools can avail of funding directly from Cycling Ireland.

We believe this change will simplify the process for everyone involved, particularly for schools applying for the grant. Cycling Ireland will liaise directly you and other training providers to confirm dates and availability for schools.

Please contact cycleright@cyclingireland.ie with any queries you might have.

*Who is eligible?
Eligible:
  • Schools who are currently working on Travel or Global Citizenship Travel.
  • Schools who have completed Travel in the past and are still active on the Green-Schools programme.
NOT Eligible:
  • Schools who are long term deferred from Green-Schools, as we need to prioritise schools currently working on the programme. A long term deferred school is a school which has not renewed their Green Flag Award within the expected two-year timeline for a number of years and are not maintaining their work on the Green-Schools programme or relationship with Green-Schools.
  • Schools who do not apply for the grant within 3 months of the training start date.
