Urlingford N.S. SeaKeepers explore the rocky shore at Tramore Beach

Out of the ninety classes who took part in the SeaKeepers Project this year, 2nd class at Urlingford N.S., Co. Kilkenny, were the lucky winners of this year’s SeaKeepers Beach Exploration Workshop!

Green-Schools Marine team were delighted to welcome them to Tramore beach, Co. Waterford, last week for a fun-filled day exploring the rocky seashore and taking part in beach activities, including a marine litter relay race, seaweed tasting and sandcastle competition! The students had been learning about marine biodiversity throughout the year and were delighted to see some of the species they had studied, in real life – even a few fish were caught (and released!)! The day finished off with some delicious 99’s in the sunshine 😊 A huge well done to Urlingford N.S., and all the schools who took part in the SeaKeepers Project this year.

The SeaKeepers Project provides primary schools with exclusive resources and lesson plans to learn about our native marine biodiversity. If your school is working towards the Marine Flag next year or has already been awarded Marine, you can find out more about the project and how to sign up at https://greenschoolsireland.org/the-seakeepers-project/

Registrations will re-open in Autumn 2025.
