Ár logainmneacha agus ár gCrainn – Our placenames and our trees
Dé Luan, 9ú Marta. 11:30 -12:00
Celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge and Seachtain na Crann (Tree Week) with Green Schools and LEAF Ireland. This webinar is open to Gaelscoileanna and English speaking schools. It will be presented As Gaeilge (with any tricky words translated to English!).
Tá an Ghaeilge chomh tábhachtach dúinn chun ár dtírdhreach a thuiscint. Nuair a rinneadh praiseach do logainmneacha na tíre seo, thógtar an bhrí astu. Tar linn chun an lionsa a mhúscailt faoi thábhacht na gcrann inár dtírdhreach agus ár bpobail.
Irish is very important to us in understanding our landscapes. When a ‘puddle’ was made of the countries placenames, the meaning was taken from them. Join us to awaken a lense into the importance of trees in our landscape and our communities.
Green Schools and GLOBE Ireland invite you to join us for this fun and interactive table quiz! Students from around the country (and even around the world!) have been sending us their favourite tree facts, jokes and myths for the last few months and we have been blown away by them! We will be using these entries to help us make our quiz questions! We will also announce the winners of our favourite fact, joke and myth! Make sure you set up quiz teams in the classroom before joining and each team should have paper and pencils! Can any team answer all of our questions correctly??
Head out for a nature walk around your school, park, woodland or local community and see what trees you can identify. Use our spotter sheet to help you. Available in English or As Gaeilge.
3. Plant a Tree
What better way to mark Tree Week than by planting a tree! Check out our Resource Sheet to get a step by step guide. Coillte have provided trees to county councils around the country. If you are interested in organising a tree planting event in your school, contact your local county council.
