Sign up for a Science Week Marine Workshop!
This November, Green-Schools will be hosting six indoor Marine Workshops for primary schools at locations around the country as part of Science Week. The workshops are aimed at 3rd class and upwards and provide students with an engaging introduction to Ireland’s marine environment through a mix of interactive activities, discussion and hands-on learning.
The workshops will explore topics including marine biodiversity, marine litter, science and art, giving students the opportunity to learn more about the fascinating life found in our seas and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. Students will take part in fun activities designed to encourage curiosity, help them explore marine issues and inspire ideas for positive action back at school.
A key focus of the workshops will be marine litter. Students will investigate different types and sources of litter found in the marine environment and consider how litter can impact marine animals and ecosystems. Where possible, students will have the opportunity to examine real examples of marine litter, making the issue more tangible and helping them connect what they learn to their own local environment.
The workshops will also showcase marine science and biodiversity, introducing students to some of the species, habitats and scientific research that help us understand Ireland’s marine environment. Creative activities will give students the opportunity to explore marine themes through art and hands-on learning, while action-planning activities will encourage them to think about what they can do in their own schools and communities.
Each school can apply to bring a group of five people (including teachers). Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided for all participants. The workshops are a great opportunity for students and teachers to learn together, share ideas and bring new marine activities and knowledge back to their schools.
Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Check out our poster for the locations and dates and register your school below!
