A Week of Global Collaboration
From February 24th to 28th, the Green Schools Global Citizenship Team hosted our most inspiring Global Goals Week yet! Partnering with the Kenyan Organisation for Environmental Education (KOEE) and the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA), we connected with schools across Ireland, South Africa, and Kenya to explore key global challenges and solutions.
This year, our focus was on five UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
During our sessions, we connected with schools across Ireland, South Africa, and Kenya, sharing ideas and real-life solutions to global challenges. In South Africa, students showcased innovative projects on Global Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation. They described how their school protects local wetlands and ensures access to clean water.
In Kenya, students shared how they are taking action on Global Goal 15 – Life on Land. They discussed tree planting, protecting biodiversity, and preserving local ecosystems. Lilian Agola, a teacher from Ruaraka High School, Kenya proudly shared, “We have done approximately 1000 trees since 2009, and our school has a small forest and beautiful park!”.
Discussions on Global Goal 1 (No Poverty) highlighted shared challenges in South Africa, Kenya, and Ireland. Schools brainstormed solutions, such as improving education and creating job opportunities to reduce poverty. One student noted, “Education makes a difference in attitudes,” sparking further conversation on collaborative solutions.
The energy, enthusiasm, and ideas shared were truly inspiring. From discussing climate action to learning about Ubuntu (“I am because we are”) Global Goals Week reinforced the power of collaboration. The week highlighted that our collective projects, no matter how small, can create a ripple effect, supporting a safer, more equal, and sustainable future for all.
See you all in 2026!
