The Green-Schools Marine Team is delighted to launch the Marine Ambassador Programme for 2026/2027. Following the success of last year’s student-focused programme, we are excited to continue with an enhanced and expanded format. 

Our 2025/2026 Marine Ambassadors demonstrated incredible dedication and commitment throughout the year, organising clean-ups, environmental campaigns, and awareness-raising events within their schools and local communities. They spoke during the National Marine Conference in Dublin and inspired the next generation to take action within their own communities. Their enthusiasm and hard work helped inspire positive action for marine conservation and highlighted the important role young people play in protecting our oceans. 

The 2026/2027 will focus on delivering the 7 ocean literacy principles in series of modules throughout the school year. 

Module 1: Foundations  

Module 2: Impacts of human on marine life with a focus on marine litter 

Module 3: Irish Marine Ecosystems and Biodiversity  

Module 4: Fieldwork 

Each module will consist of a webinar, a practical and an assignment. Time commitment is estimated 1-2hrs per week.  

Marine Ambassadors will get to virtually meet like-minded students from other schools and there may be the opportunity for Ambassadors to take part in an in-person event later in the year. There will be opportunities for them to meet other student ambassadors, and to get involved in our sister-programmes such as the “Let’s Fix Fashion” campaign and the “Young Reporters for the Environment” competition. 

This is an exciting opportunity for secondary school students with an interest in the marine environment and a passion for making a difference to gain skills and knowledge. 

Students can choose to apply as individuals or to work in groups of up to six. Students must have the support of a teacher within their school to take part.
