The latest Green-Schools Travel Annual Report is now available online under our Travel theme. Check out the extensive work carried out by pupils, teaching staff and Travel Officers during 2017, across the Green-Schools Travel theme. The year has seen a significant increase of children and parents travelling to school by means of walking, cycling and scooting which not only increased their physical activity but contributed to reducing CO2 emissions around the school grounds. Targets were up on last years Travel initiatives with over 30,000 students walking to school on National Walk to School Day, 5,000 students cycling to school on National COW day as part of National Bike Week, and over 4,200 students scooted to school on National Scoot to School Day. Now in it’s 10th year within the Green-Schools programme, the Travel theme awarded 205 schools the Green Flag for Travel in May 2017. Green-Schools Travel Officers continue to assist schools within the programme and over the 2017 calendar year 2,539 visits to schools were completed. Many participating schools availed of subsidised parking facilities for bikes and scooters and over 80 schools received subsidised Cycle Right training.
