Welcome back to the new academic year! We are very excited here at Green-Schools to start working together again and we can’t wait to put the wheels in motion – and what better way to start than by celebrating National Bike Week 2021!
National Bike Week takes place this year from September 12 to 18. National COW Day (Cycle on Wednesday) is on Wednesday, September 15. This year, to celebrate the joy and benefits of cycling, we have a set of engaging activities and events planned out for schools to help you make the most out of Bike Week.
If your school is currently working on the Green-Schools Travel theme, your assigned Green-Schools Travel Officer will soon be in touch with you for possibly organizing a bike workshop, talk or activity centred around cycling, which could be in-person (depending on numbers) or virtual.
Bike Week Events & Activities
- Every day on our social media channels we’ll share a relevant resource that you can use to celebrate Bike Week – we’ll also share your Bike Week photos and stories; join us online @GreenSchoolsIre on Twitter, Instagram and search “Green-Schools Ireland” on Facebook.
- Wednesday, September 15 is National COW Day! Don’t forget to register how many pupils cycled to school and send the count to firstname.lastname@example.org or complete the form online here. If you want to share pictures from your school’s National COW Day celebrations you can tag us at @GreenScholsIre with #CycletoSchool or #ArDoRothar
- During the whole week we’ll run the social media competition: #MyBikeStory. To take part just share a picture or a short video of yourself and your bike and tag us @GreenSchoolIre with #MyBikeStory. Each day we’ll select two winners who will receive a treat to enjoy with their all class later in the year: an online screening of a IFI movie to remember (and celebrate) Bike Week.
